September and October have been busy months for the IBTM Portfolio. It kicked off with our first IBTM India which took place at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. First impressions were of an extraordinary city both culturally and from it’s pace, everyone seemed busy and with a purpose, no wonder it’s the economic gateway of India and certainly for me one of the great cities of the world! Over flowing with facts, perhaps the one that stands out is that the population of Mumbai is just about the same as the whole of the UK close on 61million! I also learned that 35,000 working women travel on their own “Ladies Special” every day into the city rail terminus!

The first table top event for our portfolio, another to follow, but more of that later, IBTM India saw 3 days of business and learning between 80 Hosted Buyers from 16 countries (including representation from 8 key cities in India) and 72 Exhibitors from 22 countries to produce nearly 3,000 appointments. We also created a half-day conference which was attended by over 200 delegates who were keen to attend the keynote session by Devdutt Pattanaik who talked about the teachings of mythology and its use in modern day business practices!

It’s easy for us to claim a success, but we listen to those who attend and we have made sure that their comments and voices are loud and clear, so check out www.ibtmevents.com/ibtmindia where you can see them talking live on the show reel and it’s also worth capturing the essence of the event in the image gallery.

Heading to another great powerhouse of the 21st century and our next inaugural IBTM event is to take place in Africa from April 28th – 30th in the beautiful city of Cape Town. Exactly the same format as IBTM India, this event will actually be part of Africa Travel Week – 3 co-located shows – WTM Africa, IBTM Africa and ILTM Africa bring the whole business and leisure travel industry together in one week of events.

IBTM Africa will target the inbound meetings, events, incentives and business travel sectors of Africa and Indian Ocean and if you are a supplier to the sector then you want to be there because we will have 50 international buyers all of whom will have been pre-qualified and have guaranteed business to place. There will also be a stream of education and of course plenty of networking opportunities as well. Find out more about the event on www.ibtmevents.com/ibtmafrica .

Finally, of course October wouldn’t be October without the final madness of putting the finishing touches to EIBTM. There is a team of over 70 people involved in creating our largest event in the portfolio but it’s not all about size because this year this same team have managed to take innovation to another level. It’s going to be different from the moment you enter the hall. A new show floor layout is one of the highlights and has been in the planning for more than a year – after all we are in the event’s business so we have to lead by example in this industry!

Your first glance from the overhead walk way as you enter the halls will unfold below – two new aisles that provide clear end-to-end access for the show, framed with two large Piazzas for networking and refreshments – yes one serves that famous of all cuisines – Spanish Tapas – and the other a tempting combination of Seafood and Cava. But don’t spend your time resting there because you have so much more to see.

Want to become a Genius? Well you can – just spend some time learning in the Sustainability Genius Zone, the Hologram Genius Zone and the Event Genius Zone – there will be a team of Geniuses to help you get answers and give you solutions for your business and events. We will know if you have been there as those that do will get their “I’m a Genius” badge – wear it with pride!

Education has become Knowledge – the content this year gives a fresh perspective to this dynamic programme with speakers and experts, workshops and debates – it’s created for you so don’t miss out. Make sure you download the EIBTM App, find out what’s going on and work out your plans for the 3 days – that way you can really make the most of your attendance with us and evaluate real return on your investment.

Of course it would be remiss of me not to mention the small fact that EIBTM celebrates it’s 10th birthday in Barcelona this year – another city that well deserves its label for culture, history and culinary expertise. From swanky new hotels (yes they pop up every year) to arguably one of Europe’s most famous football teams, to the magic of Gaudi’s architecture and the legacy of the Olympics. It’s all there, why not stay on after EIBTM and enjoy.

If you still need to know more then go to www.ibtmevents.com and click on your show. See you somewhere soon!
