07 Nov 2017

The UK continues to be a top-ranking destination for international Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Event planners, according to latest reports. Its capital, London, is ranked as the most popular destination for meetings and incentives in Europe, according to a recent survey*. Plus, the most recent report from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA)** places the UK third in its global rankings.

The stage is set once again for the UK to showcase its world-renowned offer to thousands of highly influential industry planners and meetings professionals at ibtm world 2017, which takes place from 28 – 30 November at Fira Gran Via Barcelona, Spain.

A high-calibre group of Hosted Buyers from brands including Volvo, L'Oréal, Microsoft, Gucci and Shell is already confirmed to attend, with more than 70 per cent holding a budget of over $500,000 for their events.

Barbara Jamison, Head of Business Development at London & Partners and Board Member of European Cities Marketing, said: “Whether it’s corporate, association or incentive events, the United Kingdom offers something for everyone thanks to its diversity. In London, our heritage and world-class culture, alongside the city’s fantastic connectivity, venues, hotels and business expertise make it the ideal place to host events. We look forward to exhibiting at ibtm world with our 23 fantastic partners and to work with them to show that London, and the UK, is open.”

ibtm world is the industry’s leading showcase of meetings, incentives, conferences and events and today attracts over 15,000 elite international and domestic MICE delegates.

Kerry Prince, Portfolio Director, ibtm events, said: “The UK is a real draw for planners attending our flagship event in Barcelona, thanks to our strong and varied offer and the business opportunities available here. We’re completely focused on ensuring that every one of our attendees has a successful experience at ibtm world, and we’re looking forward to helping grow their domestic and international business.”

So far this year, the show has seen an influx of high profile Hosted Buyers signed up to attend, from associations to world-renowned corporates. Among buyers this year, conferences/meetings venues, destination management services, destinations and hotels were the most popular products, while conferences/meetings, incentive travel, business travel and conventions/congresses were the most popular types of events organised.

Attendees at ibtm world have full access to a structured programme of networking events, which this year includes an 80s themed Welcome Party as a nod to the event‘s 30-year anniversary, Networking Hour, where exhibitors offer show-stopping cultural performances, and MPI Rendezvous, which will be held at the beach front Opium nightclub.

ibtm world’s market-leading Knowledge Programme is a key attraction for visitors and this year is headlined by two globally renowned keynote speakers, one of whom is author and former director general of the UK Secret Service, Dame Stella Rimington. The sessions have been designed to deliver tangible take-away learnings covering themes including industry trends, safety, security and risk management and professional and staff development, among others. As well as this, visitors will be able to explore and interact with new and emerging technologies through the event’s Innovation Zone and Technology and Services Zone.
